Master's Program

The department offers the following master's programs:

-    MS in Computer Science (CS). The master in CS program is aimed at students who are interested in obtaining advanced knowledge of different aspects of computer science and engineering.

-    MS in Software Engineering & Information Technology (SEIT). The master in SEIT program is primarily aimed at individuals who want to focus on software engineering and information technology practices.

Each program offers two tracks: Professional track and Research Track. The professional track requires 36 credits of graduate course work including 4 credits of an internship/industry project work. The research track requires 32 credits including 8 credits of thesis work.

 

Admission and Degree Requirements:

 

Admission Requirements for MS in CS or SEIT

 

  

BS in Computer Science (CS) or Information Technology (IT) or Software Engineering (SE) or Computer Engineering (CE). Applicants from other disciplines would be considered after successfully completing appropriate prerequisite courses.

  

GPA of 3.0 or better

  

All applicants must meet the University requirement for English language proficiency. Additionally, GRE scores are required of applicant having the qualifying degree from an institution outside North America.  

 

Degree Requirements for MS in CS

The program offers two tracks: Professional Track and Research Track. The professional track requires 36 credits of graduate course work including 4 credits of an internship/industry project work. Those already working as professionals have the option of replacing the internship/industry project with a regular course. The research track requires 32 credits of graduate coursework including 8 credits of thesis work. The structure of credits is as follows:

  

Core requirement: Must complete four core courses consisting of CSE 535, 545, 550, and 561 or APM 563 or 577 or 581. A core course may be substituted by another CSE course with prior approval provided the student has already taken an equivalent course. (16 credit hours)

  

Depth requirement: Students on research track must complete a thesis for 8 credit hours. Students on professional track must complete two courses (8 credit hours) from any one specialty group. (8 credit hours)

  

Electives: 8 credits of electives should be completed from at least two different specialty groups other than the specialty group selected as depth. Additionally, the students on professional track must complete 4 credits of internship or industry project. (8-12 credit hours)

 

Degree Requirements for MS in SEIT

The program offers two tracks: Professional Track and Research Track. The professional track requires 36 credits of graduate course work including 4 credits of an internship/industry project work. Those already working as professionals have the option of replacing the internship/industry project with a regular course. The research track requires 32 credits of graduate coursework including 8 credits of thesis work. The structure of credits is as follows:

  

Core requirement: Must complete four core courses consisting of CSE 520, 522, 539, and 545. A core course may be substituted by another CSE course with prior approval provided the student has already taken an equivalent course. (16 credit hours)

  

Depth requirement: Students on research track must complete a thesis for 8 credit hours. Students on professional track must complete two courses (8 credit hours) from SE or IT specialty group. (8 credit hours)

  

Electives: 8 credits of electives should be completed. 4 credits must be from non-SE and IT specialty groups. Additionally, the students on professional track must complete 4 credits of internship or industry project. (8-12 credit hours)
